Coaching Structure

Our main aim at the Bobcats is for everyone to HAVE FUN!!! Our coaching sessions are structured to suit everyone regardless of age, sex or ability. We regard the Club as one big family of which you become a part & you share in our successes & also our failures.

When you first come down to us, you will be given a very informal introduction during which you are introduced to the coaches & assistants & we walk you around the diamond & help you get to know where everything is & how everything works…..don’t worry if you can’t remember everything first time – there will be plenty of chances to learn as we play…..

You will be given a glove that is used for catching the ball,.......

..........but it will be handy if you can come dressed in a t-shirt (& perhaps a sweatshirt in case it gets chilly!) together with some jogging pants (not shorts) & some trainers that are comfy. It’s also a good idea to bring down a bottle of water so that you can get a drink if you get thirsty – it’s a long walk up to the school fountains!

We like to keep our training sessions FUN! So not only will we be learning how to throw & catch, hit & run but we will also be having some fun activities & games out on the diamond too, so you can have fun & learn how to play at the same time….

Don’t forget that we all learn at different speeds so don’t worry if you’re not good at everything straight away, that just comes with practice & we are all here to help you with anything that you find hard to do….

When the Summer months arrive, we do Slide training….in baseball we sometimes deliberately “slide” into a base when we are running towards it – we have to learn how to do this safely, so we use a wet slide run to practice this skill & even if you never use it – its good fun to get wet & slide as far as you can:

From throwing & catching we move on to batting – one of the hardest skills to learn in baseball but we are lucky to have the use of our own batting cage & pitching machine so that you can get used to accurate pitches at constant speeds while you learn how to control your bat, its speed & accuracy….
For the strong arms out there – why not have a go at Pitching? Try out our mound for size & see how close you can throw the ball into the “strike zone”…

As the year progresses, you will get the chance to try your hand at every skill & every position on the field & you will find something that you like to do most…

But the most important thing is to remember to Have Fun!!!!!
